Why

Every movement begins with a group of people aligned around a shared vision of something better—to cohere around relationships and values before tech platforms and economic models. The network before the state.

This event is calling together leaders that represent a diverse array of perspectives for three days of facilitated workshops, unconference-style talks, and the magic that comes from late-night fireside conversations.

The Network State Camp will be taking place at a classic American summer camp to shake up the conference-as-usual vibes and remind us that work and play enhance each other.

FAQ

What about network cities, network sovereignties, network societies, coordi-nations, and other adjacent ideas?

We've called this event The Network State Camp because network states are the most widely known meme associated with the broader movement that contains all of these ideas. This movement is inherently pluralistic, and a core goal of the event is to bring together people with a wide range of perspectives and approaches. If you are interested in any of these ideas, your perspective will be an important part of the collective sensemaking we will do together.

I don't like the idea of network states.

Well, first of all, that's not really a question. If that's the entire extent of your opinion, you might not be a good fit for this event. But if you are open minded, interested in exploring new ideas, and willing to respectfully engage with people you disagree with—apply to join us! Even the event organizers don't agree with everything written in “The Network State”. This event is specifically designed to bring together people with a wide range of opinions, so we can find core areas of overlap and disagreement about the movement we're collectively building.

What are we doing at Camp?

  • Connecting with people from around the world passionate about the movement.
  • Diving deep in facilitated small group conversations about network state theory and practice.
  • Learning from the field through participant-led conversations and workshops.
  • Enjoying fun and games unique to summer camp (Archery! Canoes! Campfire! Cocktails!).
